Eat 'n Write : The Thirty-Six

If you asked me to pick a favourite cafe in Medan (Medan, Indonesia. This is where I'm currently living), I would probably pick The Thirty-Six, and you'll know why in a minute. Well, "The Thirty-Six" is sort of mouthful, I usually just call it 36, for short. There was a time where I would hang out here, more or less twice in a week, afternoon or evening. Not only do they serve the finest french fries dishes, the ambiance itself is very welcoming. The clean splash of white paints on the walls with the contrasting black painted frames on the windows, the concrete floors, the rustic wooden decor, they set the perfect balance of that warehouse and homey vibes. Which is exactly what I like. Not to mention the lighting. The lighting in the afternoon is just perfect. I know it isn't a big deal if your main purpose is to just solely enjoy the food, but if you are one of those people love to snap some pics while you are at it, you would feel me.

The menu compiles of a good variation of dishes, ranging from the all spicy Indonesian platter to salads, pastas and fries. Oh don't even get me started on the french fries. I may not have tried all of the french fries dishes on the menu, because I'm more like the stick-to-one-dish-all-the-time kinda gal, but I just have to say that the "Poutine" is to die for. It is such a shame that it was out of order when I was there, because it would be great to have a picture to put on that name. But you can just google it, if you are that curious. Anyway, I ended up ordering Spaghetti Aglio Olio, which plenty of my friends swear by. Let me just say that I have never been a huge fan of Spaghetti Aglio Olio, so there is a high margin of error when I say that I wasn't completely satisfied with it. It might have been a little bland for my taste, but I don't know. It could be just me. I only ordered it because I was intrigued by the raves. But, all in all, they do serve pretty mean dishes there, definitely worth the price.

Drinks wise, they are pretty well known for their coffees I guess. But since I am not a coffee person, I would usually lean towards the teas. On other days, you would find me ordering a cup of Earl grey tea, but that day? I just couldn't go for a warm cup of tea. It was too hot of a day for that. Hence, the cold drink. Helena. That's what its called. A burst of honey and lemon, accompanied by aloe vera dices in a cold jar of soda. Very refreshing for a scorching hot day.

As I mentioned, I have been going here for like ages, so you can trust me when I say that the service is pretty decent. I'm not talking about like 2 minutes orders arrival, because that's just insane, that just doesn't happen unless you are in a fast food chain. I'm talking about not having to wait for an hour for a single scoop of ice cream, which trust me, has happened to me and my friends before in one of the restaurants in town, that of course, I prefer not to mention.

Alright, I feel like this post has gotten a little bit too chatty and lengthy, so I should probably end this. Oh and if you are drawn by that pile of goodness, the Aburi Baked Fries. Head over to Food Journal, where my friend did a review of it. Should I finish this off with some ratings? I probably should.

Menu : 4/5
Interior/Atmosphere : 5/5
Service : 4/5

This has been fun, tell me what you think of this new blog series! If there's any suggestion, I'd love to know!

Eat & Write

I promised more content, and here I am, delivering. I'm launching a new blog series called "Eat & Write" where I go around cafes or restaurants, try their menus and blog about them, the food, the ambience and all that. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory. This idea came to me as I invited my friend, who runs a food blog to ride around town on a mini culinary trip. We had talked about doing this for ages and now that she is back in town, I figured what better time to do this? We tried a couple of cafes yesterday, which I would do individual posts on. So, look forward to that.

But let me just put it out there that I will still continue to blog about other things that I usually do, all those outfit posts and what not, they are still going to be here, and in no way am I establishing that I am a professional food critique. What tastes good to me, might not necessarily tastes good for you, I'm just having a little fun, that's all. I do hope this little series would be an exciting addition to the blog. I want to be able to talk about other things aside from the good old outfit of the day and such.

Do check my friend's blog out for y'all foodies out there. Drop by and say hi! or something.

Paper Planes

Sweater - Unbranded | Joggers - GU | Cheetah Printed Roshe Run - Nike | Stone necklace - Topshop

Nope, I haven't abandoned this space yet. In fact, I am now trying to be more productive. There are quite a few things I have in mind that I would like to incorporate into this blog, product reviews for instance. Let's see how well that would go. But right now, I don't even know if anyone is actually reading this blog anymore, I mean i could check the stats, but that doesn't mean anyone is reading this. But, if you are reading this and there's anything you would like me to bring on this space, feel free to let me know! I do read all the comments, you know.

Alright, let's move on to the outfit. By now you are probably aware of my obsession with joggers. God knows I have definitely outworn all of the ones I have. However, this grey joggers have not yet made any appearance on this blog. This pair right here has a bit of a thicker material compared to the previous one I wore on this blog. Regardless, I still love wearing them for their prints. I know it isn't much of a print, it's more like the natural arrangement of the fibres of the material. Still, I love how they give a little bit of oomph to the otherwise plain old boring fabric.

Bringing the whole colour schemes lighter, I decided to go with this embroidered lace sweater, whatever it's called. Anyway, the second I saw this sweater, I just knew I had to get it. It has the perfect balance of that feminine and sporty vibes. You could actually dress this up very easily, throw on any skirt and it would just look lovely.

Crew Love

Top - Unbranded | Ripped jeans - Forever 21 | Necklace - H&M | Sneakers - Vans | Rings - H&M

You know how there are days where you are just too lazy to pick out something cool to wear and all you wanna do is sprawl on the couch all day. For one of those days, I usually just go straight out for the sneakers and skinny jeans slash sweatpants combo, which is the easiest and comfiest pairing ever. But again, that's what i wear 90% of the time, which can appear pretty dull, I know. Thats where the gold pieces come in, I always find the need to sneak on some dainty rings or throw on a necklace, never failing to incorporate some gold accents into the outfit to add just enough edge to dismiss the dullness.

Oh before I go, one question, am I the only one who find it hard to come up with a seamless and smooth closing line for a post? I mean I know I could end the post with "So what do you guys think?" or something like that, but that's just plain awkward.

Weddington Way Bridesmaid Getup

When Weddington Way contacted me to take a part in their Bridesmaid styling challenge, I just knew I had to say yes. Its always been a long dream of mine plan weddings and such, creating the perfect ensemble for a once in a life time event, even though it is just a hypothetical situation in this case. The challenge is to create the ideal bridesmaid getup for a winter wedding, using one of the dresses supplied by Weddington Way. When I heard the word winter, the first thing that crossed my mind was holidays, and I associate holidays with the colour gold, which is why I picked gold as my main colour in the colour scheme, in addition to the navy blue. I wouldn't go as far as picking everything gold from head to toe, so I thought navy would be the perfect colour to pair with gold. All in all, I'm trying to keep the look as minimalistic as possible, not throwing in much jewellery, aside from the gold hair pin which I absolutely love.
